Simply Scentsational!

24 September 2009

However you decide it's Autumn, whether it's from September 1st as the weathermen say, or from the Autumn Equinox which was this Tuesday, or from when there's that freshness in the morning air, it's here! Our Virginia creeper is changing hue from it's lush summer green to that gloriously vibrant red, the acorns are dropping from the oak trees and keeping the squirrels busy, and I could even see my breath on the air this morning! The nights are drawing in and we've started lighting candles again - yes, Autumn is definitely here!

It's been a while since we've emailed, so there's a lot to tell you about what we're doing at Enchanted at the moment. We've recently returned from the Autumn Fair where we found some delightful new products to complement our established favourites. We'll ensure that you'll hear a little more from us as we keep you informed of new products as and when they arrive over the next few weeks.

Now let me tell you about our Product of the Month for October, our wonderful candles; if you haven't tried them yet, you have a wonderful treat ahead of you in this mellowest of seasons.

Scentsational Candles!

Of all our senses, our sense of smell is the most evocative, conjuring up memories, stirring emotions. Dark nights, the curtains closed, feeling cosy, the warm flickering of a candle flame, and delicious scents lightly filling the room and teasing your nose...here at Enchanted we always like to bring you the best selection of natural aromatic candles that we can find, fragrances that enhance your mood and don't overpower it.

We also like to keep things as natural as possible, which is why we were delighted to discover Paddywax candles earlier this year...they ticked all our boxes on the natural and environmentally friendly side, they have the most wonderful aromas, AND they look stylish!

Paddywax candles came into the UK earlier this year and we were amongst the first shops to stock them. Made from soy wax, the candles are artisan in every sense, with a process similar to the way that candles were made hundreds of years ago. From fragrance delivery to burn time, each custom recipe is made to deliver the best experience. The fragrance blends are developed to give the most natural aroma through the use of all natural ingredients. Paddywax takes pride in never offering a synthetic fragrance; instead they constantly push themselves to create something natural and unique. It begins when every candle is hand poured and ends when each product is packaged with precision. Each bow and label are applied by hand to give every product that human touch that is worthy of gift giving. They take pride in their work and know that every detail counts, believing that what is truly beautiful in life lies in the details and that is why they love what they do so much.

The candles come in two formats:

  • The small and stylish recyclable Travel Tin that you may already be familiar with, a small package that packs a punch, giving you approx 15 hours of burn time of the most delicious aromas - at £4.95 that's 33p an hour. A great way of trying out new fragrances, and a cost-effective way of having a different scent in each room to conjure up different moods.
  • We also now have several of the aromas in the Classic jars, hand-poured and beautifully packaged to make the perfect gift. A simple jar filled with colourful aromatic soy wax, with a hand-tied bow, packed in a simply stylish box, the Classic jar gives you an amazing burn time of approx 60 hours - at £19.50 that's only 32.5p per hour.

As we mentioned, the candles are our selected Product of the Month for October...but we just couldn't wait until October to tell you about them! We're so keen for you to try them and so sure you'll love them as much as we do, we're offering you 10% off all Paddywax candles bought before October 7th. Just mention this email when you come to pay.

We've already fallen in love with them, as have many of you, and if you haven't yet experienced them, why not give them a try - we hope you too will fall in love with Paddywax.

New aromas for the Autumn:

  • Green Tea & Lemongrass: subtle, yet bright and refreshing, with hints of green tea, lemongrass and the sensuality of ylang ylang.
  • Juniper Citrus: bring the outdoors in with refreshing juniper berries coupled with cedar wood and a hint of orange zest.
  • Jasmine & Bamboo: a delightful clean and calming scent featuring lotus, jasmine and bamboo notes.
  • Quince Spice: sweet and exotic quince will enrich your surroundings as it is enlivened by cinnamon and spicy pimento. Definitely an aroma that conjures up Autumn and Christmas!
  • Limoncello: close your eyes and imagine yourself relaxing in an Italian cafe and enjoy the scents of lemon zest and fresh mint.
  • White Spruce Cassis: a delicious layering of refreshing spruce with an underlying fruity sweetness, a wonderful blend of white spruce overlaid with cassis and cranberry. Another seasonal aroma!

And don't forget our existing aromas:

  • Lavender: a calming herbaceous blend of serene lavender, clary sage and ylang ylang.
  • Cucumber Grapefruit: energising grapefruit is blended with green cucumber and enhanced with hints of cardamom seed.
  • Verbena: wake up your senses with this with this invigorating trio of verbena, lemongrass and lavender.
  • Mint Mojito: sugar cane, a squeeze of line and fresh-picked mint leaves come together to create this refreshing concoction
  • Plumeria: the intoxicating floral fragrances of sweet pea and plumeria, balanced with clean and spicy white ginger
  • Sandalwood: earthy sandalwood is balanced by the clean scent of cedar and top notes of lavender

So...wonderfully sensual aromas that delight, pure ingredients, environmentally friendly AND good value for money...what are you waiting for? Words can never convey the delight of the aromas, why not come in and experience them for yourself?

And finally....
Your support and the feedback that you give us when you visit us has been most encouraging, and we really appreciate your interest in Enchanted. We've also had many new customers who have found us by recommendation - thank you so much for passing the word around, please keep it up! Word of mouth is so much more effective than any advertising we could do and the fact that you want to tell others about us means so much to us. If there's anyone you'd like to tell about Enchanted and share this with, please do pass this email on - and if you have had this email forwarded on to you and would like to hear from us on a regular basis, just drop us an email or enter your details on our enquiry form.

Don't forget, if there's anything we don't currently stock that you'd like to see, let us know and we'll see what we can do.

Who Inspires You?

19 June 2009

I apologise for the length of this news entry, it wasn't meant to be this long but it was hard to see what to cut once I'd written it, so can I suggest you make yourself a drink and take 5 minutes out of this hectic world! Go on, you deserve it!

I hope you're well and making the most of this lovely weather! The gardens are blooming, people are ditching the blacks and greys for more summery colours, and the world just seems a brighter and more inspiring place!

Speaking of inspiration...

A few weeks ago a lady came into the shop, she looked familiar but I could think where from, and she was thinking the same. And then we got it...several years ago she had run a shop similar to Enchanted, I'd been there a lot buying crystals for a friend who was very ill, and we'd shared our knowledge and a few spooky moments (and a few tears!). Years later when Enchanted started to take shape and people thought I was mad, her and her partner were my inspiration even though we'd lost contact. I remembered what they had achieved and I knew the area was open to such a shop, and that gave me strength over those many hurdles. She was truly amazed when I told her how she had inspired me, she hadn't realised, and at the time that she came into Enchanted that was something she needed to hear. Everything happens for a reason and we are always where we are meant to be at that moment.

And that led me to think about how many people have inspired me, often in small ways, and to wonder how many people I might have inspired, and how we then all go on to inspire others creating a wonderful ripple effect.

There is one group of ladies who are very special to me and have inspired me, and I don't know if they even realise it. But before I get into the story, I'm going to be cheeky and ask for your support, I hope you won't mind!

This lovely group of ladies are called The Pink Ladies, they are all cancer survivors and on Sunday 28th June several of them are doing the Race for Life at Ardingley Showground in memory of our dear friend Lesley Latus who sadly passed away last November. Please could I ask you sponsor them, you can do it via JustGiving, a secure site for fund-raisers that handles all the administration including the Gift Aid. To find out more and to make a donation, please visit the Pink Ladies page - it doesn't matter how small the donation, every pound adds up.

And now about the Pink Ladies and how they have inspired me!

Some time before the birth of Enchanted I was the Centre Manager of a local healing centre. I was quite ill myself at the time, and like everyone who suffers ongoing pain and discomfort I had a tendency to feel sorry for myself from time to time and to get low about all the things I couldn't do.

The Centre hosted the local breast cancer support groups and a lung cancer support group. I would open the door and greet people until the cancer nurses got there, and initially I was dreading it, I just assumed that the visitors would all be worn down and negative about their situations, I was expecting doom and gloom. Well how wrong could I be! Yes, often when women arrived for their first visit they would be nervous, a little scared, but they were welcomed with a smile and open arms, and it was always lovely to see the effect that had.

Far from being all negative, it would often sound like there was a party going on, with chatter and laughter. Yes there were tears and serious moments, but these women taught me that cancer needn't be a death sentence, and that whatever your situation, life was for living and grabbing with both hands, focusing on what you can do, not what you can't do, and making the most of every moment. It helped me to learn to look beyond my limitations and see possibilities and to live in the now. Did these women realise how they inspired me? Probably not.

When I left the centre a group of the women who met away from the support group invited me to join them. At first my reaction was "but I haven't had breast cancer", and their response was "but you've been there with us through the journey, you're part of the group too" - and I though all I was doing was opening the door and making people feel welcome!

The Pink Ladies meets on a monthly basis. It's a social get-together, but it's also mutual support. This really came to fore last year when one of our group Lesley Latus, was told that her secondary cancer was now terminal. Lesley was a lovely lady, a ray of sunshine, always upbeat and positive, taking everything in her stride with a shrug and "well there's no point in getting upset, there's nothing I can do about it". Despite having secondary cancer, she nursed two friends through their journey with the same illness. Why? Because she could. She made the most of every moment, took every opportunity to spread a little happiness, and did whatever she could to help and support others. She planned her funeral to be upbeat and a celebration of her life, even ending with the song "Dancing in the Moonlight" so we'd all go out tapping our feet!

Lesley faced the end with a strength of spirit, grace and dignity that I hope I will have when my time comes. Despite the situation, she lifted your spirits and you couldn't feel sad around her. She was a very inspiring lady, but I doubt she realised just how much - after all, she was just getting on with life wasn't she?

The Pink Ladies rallied around Lesley and her family, and then supported each other when she sadly passed away in November last year. Now these remarkable ladies who have all come through their own journeys want to do something to remember Lesley and to raise money for a worthwhile cause.

I hope that you will feel able to support the Pink Ladies in raising funds for cancer research, it will be very much appreciated. I also hope that this email has given you food for thought. Maybe you'll take a little time out to think of the people who have inspired you, sometimes by doing something apparently simple. If you're still in touch with those people, why not tell them how they inspired you? It might be just what they need to hear right now!

If your life is touched by cancer right now, I hope this email hasn't come at a bad time and caused any upset. There are two charities close to my heart that may be of interest to you:

  • Cancer Journey (www.cancerjourney.org.uk) provides an information sign-posting service. Its aim is to ensure that all people affected by cancer can find the information that they need, at the time that they need it, and in the format that suits them.
  • Cancervive (www.cancervive.org.uk) is a self-help group offering support to the family, friends and colleagues of cancer patients.

Hasn't the weather been lovely? Hopefully you're making the most of it, it certainly seems to be lifting the spirits!

Just a quick email to say..... We're going crystal hunting again!

Sorry for the short notice, but if you've been into the shop in the last week or so you'll have noticed there's some large gaps appearing on our crystal shelves! To save you a possible wasted journey, we thought we'd better let you know that we'll be closed on Monday 27th April (yes that's in two days time!) to go crystal hunting.
Kids in a sweet shop? Us? What do you think??

Fairies and Dragons

We've had our latest delivery of fairies and dragons, and quite stunning they are too! With some old favourites and several new additions, there's plenty to choose from. They're already flying out so why not pop in and have a look?

Amber

Our amber cabinet has been refilled with some old favourites and some lovely new pieces, including several one-offs. The stunning faceted amber really has the wow factor, and there's something to suit most budgets. Coming in a range of colours, from the traditional cognac through to the more unusual green amber, why not treat yourself to a piece of this stunning jewellery.

Don't forget, if there's anything we don't currently stock that you'd like to see, let us know and we'll see what we can do.

Just in case you missed it in our last email, we're celebrating our first birthday in April - we opened on Saturday 12th April last year so we'll be celebrating this Saturday, 11th April by offering all our customers a glass of bubbly (until we run out!) so why not pop in and join us.

Don't forget our birthday gift to you - throughout April pay us a visit and when you come to pay for your purchase, just wish us a Happy 1st Birthday for 10% off your purchase (excludes gift vouchers and therapies). Please make sure you do this before we take your payment though, as we can't give the discount afterwards! There's no minimum purchase, no catch, just our birthday gift to you.
So why not pop in to see us, say hi, and help us to celebrate our first birthday!

"Like Minds" - just a thought...

We've had a great first year, met some wonderful people and learnt so much. If there's one common theme that we've noticed (other than how many lovely warm people there are out there!) is how many of you say how lovely it is to chat about spiritual matters and how rarely you meet people "of a like mind". It seems that whilst there are spiritual churches and groups dotted round, what many of us yearn for is just an informal gathering where we can mingle and chat and share our thoughts on life, the Universe and everything.

So here's a thought....what if we were to open the shop as a meeting place for one evening a month, nothing too formal, just come along and meet like-minded people? We'd provide refreshments (tea, coffee, biscuits, wine maybe) and there'd be a nominal fee to cover our costs. Who knows who we might meet, what we might discuss, how it might grow and develop....
What do you think? Is this something that would be of interest to you? Please let us know.

Thank you to all who replied to our candle questionnaire, your feedback is very much appreciated. Congratulations to Mrs. A, the lucky winner of the lovely beeswax coral candle!

Well it's April 1st, have you seen any good jokes this year? We've spotted one or two, like the Guardian saying that they were going to stop selling newspapers and instead put the news out on Twitter! And Bright FM announced that Michael Jackson was doing an extra performance at Hickstead - wonder how many got excited about that? We've also seen a few stories that we thought were April Fools but weren't!

Here's something that isn't an April Fool though.
We'll be celebrating our first birthday in April - we opened on Saturday 12th April last year.
Doesn't time fly when you're enjoying yourself? We've had a great year, met some lovely people, shared stories and experiences - some happy, some sad, some touching and all thought-provoking. Despite the media doom and gloom, we continue to think positively, and so it seems are many of you.

To celebrate this milestone and to thank you for your support in the last 12 months, we'd love to give you a birthday gift!

We'd like to offer you 10% off all purchases made throughout April (excluding gift vouchers and therapies). Rather than waste resources and ask you to print something off, all you have to do is visit us in April and when you come to pay, just wish us a Happy 1st Birthday. Please make sure you do this before we take your payment though, as we can't give the discount afterwards! There's no minimum purchase, no catch, just our birthday gift to you.

So why not pop in to see us, say hi, and help us to celebrate our first birthday!

We do hope you're enjoying the lovely weather - it's been good to have the door open at the shop and let the fresh air in!

Paddywax candles in a tin

New in this week and we're still trying to decide which is our favourite aroma! At an affordable price of £4.95 they make a lovely gift, and just in time for Mothers Day.
Made in the States, they are referred to as Travel Candles there, and as the name suggests they are ideal to take away with you, for example pop them in your handbag or put them in your luggage and take your favourite aroma with you. We think they're also a great way of trying out new aromas and a cost-effective way of having several small candles around the house, creating a different mood in each room. They don't even have to be lit to release that lovely fragrance, just take the lid off and let the lovely scents fill the room!

Stylish in a recyclable tin, it's a small candle that packs a punch! Made with soya wax, they have the same good-news story of our existing soya wax candles. They also have pure cotton wicks, they are coloured with vegetable dye and scented with pure essential oils and natural fragrances that are blended throughout the candle so they give the same lovely aroma right to the end. It's hard to believe that these sweet little candles give a full 15 hour burn time! And of course being soya wax, there's barely any smoke.

We've brought in 6 aromas to whet your appetite:

  • Lavender: a calming herbaceous blend of serene lavender, clary sage and ylang ylang.
  • Cucumber Grapefruit: energising grapefruit is blended with green cucumber and enhanced with hints of cardamom seed
  • Verbena: wake up your senses with this with this invigorating trio of verbena, lemongrass and lavender

Words can never really convey the delight of the scents, so why not come in and experience the wonderful aromas for yourself?

The snow has thawed, Valentines day is a distant memory - can you believe we're already into March? The days are getting longer so we're going home in the light and feeling less like battery hens, the weather's getting milder and we're casting off some of those layers, and the daffodils and crocuses are showing their lovely smiley faces. In just a few weeks time we'll be putting the clocks forward and Spring will officially be here. Doesn't it just help you feel lighter in spirit?

Dare we remind you that it's Mothers Day on March 22nd? If you're looking for something a little different why not pop in and see what's new - and don't worry, we still have all your old favourites too! You can indulge her with our lovely jewellery, treat her to a candle and some of our new Aromatherapy Bath Potions (see below for more info). Or why not give an angel keepsake box or book with a meaningful message? Or our Mother's Fragrances incense.....we could go on, but why not come in and see what's in? We hope you'll be pleasantly surprised.

But what's new at Enchanted? Let's see.....

Crystal Pendulums

Yes we've had pendulums for a while, but we have three new designs in. Lovely dainty double-point pendulums, 2-stone pendulums, and small short-drop pendulums, all on sterling silver chains. If you've never used a pendulum, ask us to show you how.

Crystal Key Rings

Simple but effective, crystal key rings in amethyst (the Queen of healing stones), citrine ( the stone of Joy and Abundance) and quartz (the King of healing stones) - take your favourite crystal with you wherever you go.

Soap Stone Oil Burners

A new range of oil burners carved from natural soapstone, some with brass bowls. And if you've admired our lovely friendship circles in the past, you'll love the soapstone friendship circle oil burner. Don't forget we also have a good range of aromatherapy-grade essential oils, and if there's an oil you'd particularly like, let us know and we'll do our best to get it in.

Unleash the benefits of salt! We're always looking for natural products that enhance the body and the mind, and it's easy to overlook a simple thing that we use every day, that we're constantly being told to cut back on, yet if used in the right way can bring lots of health benefits - salt!

About Himalayan Salt

Doctors and complementary therapists agree that Himalayan salt is the cleanest salt available on the planet to deliver remarkable health benefits. Himalayan crystal salt is pristine and natural. It consists of the most perfect geometric structure possible in rock crystals, the result of millions of years of compression under the Earth's surface. Its has precise mesh with our body's inner workings because Himalayan crystal salt contains an almost identical set of elements to those found inside the human body: that is, 84 of the possible 92 trace minerals, in the same proportion as naturally exist in our blood.

Himalayan crystal salt can be consumed as mineral water by dissolving in spring or energised water, dissolved in a hot bath for a healthy soak, or blended with essential oils for a rich body scrub; you can even put it on your food. All of these things apparently help to maintain the bodies natural balance. Himalayan salt is not only completely pure and natural in origin, but also remains so through processing. Unlike most salts, this ancient salt is not processed with harsh chemicals. Instead, it is mined by hand and stone ground. Himalayan salt has no preservatives or additives.

Salt Chunks

Ideal for dropping in the bath, raw chunks of Himalayan Salt, also great for displaying around a light.

Salt Crystal Deodorant Bar

A totally natural, really effective crystal deodorant that won't leave embarrassing white marks on your clothes. It works by leaving a thin layer of natural mineral salts on your skin. These mineral salts are a natural deodorant and inhibit the formation of body odour on your skin.

Aromatherapy Bath Potions

Add some aromatic magic to your bath with these wonderful bath potions, made with dead sea salts infused with potent aromatic oils to enchant the mind and body. Wonderful potent aromas and beautifully presented in organza bags ... each bag containing 200g of potent bath potion!
Choose from:-

  • "Wake Up Potion": contains grapefruit, peppermint and May Chang
  • "Total Unwind Potion": contains lavender, orange and basil
  • "Passion Potion": contains ylang ylang, lemon and orange

And if you're still stuck for ideas, you can always give an Enchanted gift voucher, starting at £5.
If you're still reading at this point, well done, hopefully we've tempted you with a few new delights! We started off by commenting on how quickly times passes, and we'll end in a similar vein - in April we'll be celebrating our first birthday, and we'd like to say thank you for your support with a birthday gift. Watch out for an email towards the end of March for further information!

There are a number of religious festivals for the various faiths in December, we hope you'll excuse us if, rather than listing them all, we simply wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and abundant 2009!

This is our first Christmas at Enchanted and what a year it's been! This time last year we were still wading through contracts and planning permissions and wondering if we'd ever open, and finally the Universe worked with us. We eventually opened in April this year, just as everyone started talking about credit crunches, and we wondered if we'd done the right thing, but with the power of positive thinking we declared ourselves a recession-free zone - the rest of the world could talk itself down but we weren't joining in! Fortunately a lot of people out there seem to feel the same way.

We've really enjoyed our first 8 months, met some lovely people, had some interesting conversations, shared knowledge with others and learnt from others, introduced like-minded souls - again, the Universe always seems to bring people who need to meet into the shop at the same time.

We've also really enjoyed helping you to find that special gift that you're looking for, and seeing the delight when you find it has been a joy.

So thank you all for your support and custom in 2008, we really do appreciate it, and we hope you have a great festive break, unwind, relax, enjoy the company of friends and family, and recharge your batteries for 2009.

You'll already know about our lovely crystals, candles, jewellery and gifts, and now we have a new offering, the chance to create your own personalised gift whether to yourself or to another.
When we first opened our doors we had looked for inspirational art but found that there wasn't much around, that it was all quite "samey" and that the minimum orders that the suppliers set were way beyond our means. So when the idea of "enchanted canvas" began to materialise, we were quietly excited.

So how does "enchanted canvas" work? Easy!

You can choose from a selection of images that we have already chosen, or provide your own image; then choose the size canvas you want from a range of single panel, double panel and triple panel; choose the type of border, and leave the rest to us. Your chosen image will be printed onto cotton canvas, stretched onto a pine block frame and provided ready to hang - all you have to do is provide the wall (and a hook)!

You can even personalise it further by having a quote printed on your canvas. Prices start from just £27 and your canvas can normally be produced within a week or so.

Call into the shop to see examples of some of our images on canvas and pick up a leaflet, or if you can't get into the shop visit the 'Enchanted Canvas' page where you can download the PDF for the leaflet.

Look forward to seeing you soon!

Well we're well and truly into Autumn, we've scraped the first frost off the car in the mornings, there's a definite chill in the air and the nights are drawing in - don't forget that the clocks go back this weekend, an extra hour in bed!

It's a wonderful season to see the beauty of nature - the crispness in the air in the mornings is so breath-taking (I still love seeing my breath on the air!), we're surrounded by the beautiful colours of the Autumn leaves, and however you feel about spiders, the heavy dew of this season makes the cobwebs in the garden a thing of beauty. Little things I know, but they all add up to the wonder of Mother Nature.
Just as Mother Nature touches our lives, so we touch each others lives.

This week a gesture from a customer made me think about this and how the simplest of gestures can make a difference.
The conversation started off with "I've written a letter and I thought I'd better tell you in case they get in touch, and tell you what it says" - I had no idea what to expect!

She went on to tell me that she had nominated our little shop for the Bright FM 2008 Awards in the category of Best New Business

She has given me permission to share her words here:

"I nominate Enchanted as the Best New Business in Burgess Hill as this is a unique shop
The warm feeling that you get when you browse in this shop is very calming. If you are cold when you arrive, you leave warm. If you have a pain, the pain disappears. If you have a headache, it is soothed. The lady behind the counter is always smiling and helpful and always has time to talk through any problems you may be experiencing in life's path. The healing that customers receive by walking through the door is a beautiful experience.
This shop should have the recognition that it so deserves. The people of Burgess Hill are very privileged to have its presence."

Wow! Now I know what the Oscar nominees mean when they say it's not about winning, it's just lovely to be nominated (not that we're in their league of course!).
There were two things about this conversation, firstly I've been a bit poorly and was feeling a bit down that morning, and the timing of this conversation couldn't have been better for me - it was a simple thing but it really lifted my spirits at a time when I needed it. Secondly it made me realise something: when we had the vision for Enchanted, we thought of all the things that we didn't like about shops and our approach has always been to treat others as we would wish to be treated ourselves - yet the simple way in which we interact with everyone that comes into our shop has an impact and can make such a difference, even prompting someone to take time out of their busy day to write such lovely words.

Every day as we go through our lives we touch umpteen other peoples' lives, often in apparently insignificant little ways, but every action has a reaction. When you see someone walking along looking miserable, how do you react? Do you glower back, or turn away? Or do you give them a smile? It's amazing the difference a smile can make, especially when it's unexpected.

And these days we're all in such a rush - when did you last take a few minutes to really chat to someone, to find out how they really are? We all say "Hi, how are you?", we all respond "fine thanks" and that's the end of it.... yes, sometimes we really don't have time to take it further, but if you do have the time, why not ask? That person might just need a sympathetic ear and you could make such a difference just by giving a few minutes and listening.

Then again, you could have the experience I had recently:
Friend: Hi Ally, how are you?
Me: Fine thanks
Friend: OK - but how are you really?
Me (after a little thought): actually, I'm great!
Friend (with a big smile): So why didn't you say that? So tell me what's going on with you.

And so started a lovely conversation about the joy of life and counting your blessings when all around seems like doom and gloom.
So, how many peoples' lives will you touch today? And how will you touch them? A smile, a kind word, a comment like "I do like that colour you're wearing", a touch on the arm, they're all free but can mean so much.

We hope you've been keeping well since our last update - hasn't Autumn pounced on us quickly? We drove back from our crystal hunting trip this week and as the sun came out it lit up the glorious colours of the autumn leaves - breathtaking! And hasn't time flown - it's just over a month since our last full update. We've been busy unpacking deliveries, rearranging shelves, welcoming in new products like our new candles and welcoming back the old favourites like the friendship circles and the chiming hearts.

So let's get on and tell you what's new and what's back in stock.

Bamboo, coral and coconuts!

"What on earth are they on about?" we hear you cry. Well, our new candles of course!
You may remember we introduced our range of soy candles back in May, and your response has been so positive that we've extended the range - and doesn't the room feel so much cosier when you light a candle at this time of year? You may remember we told you that our candles are made from entirely natural ethically-sourced ingredients. They are made from soy wax which burns virtually smoke-free and soot-free and lasts longer (around 50% longer than paraffin-based candles), and is of course from a sustainable source.
Soy wax is made from soya beans, an annually renewable source, and is non-toxic, biodegradable and environmentally friendly. It's so soft you can even use it as a massage oil when it's warm! The candles also contain blended essential oils, so no synthetic smells! Continuing the ethical theme, all of the packaging is either plant-based, reused or recycled, anything that looks like plastic is actually cornstarch, and all inks used are Japanese soy ink.

We now have 5 types of candle:

  • Coral - colourful and with an unusual appearance, these unique candles were part of our original range; they have an outer core that looks like coral, and as the inner core melts away the candlelight shines out through the coral-like texture creating a calming glow. They are hand-made, coloured with plant-based dyes, fragranced with top-quality essential oils, and the plastic-looking container is made from corn-starch. When the candle has burnt, the remaining outer case can still be used as a tealight holder.
We have now expanded to stock two sizes, the original small candle which has an average burn time of 30 hours, and the larger candle which has an average burn time of 50 hours.
  • Bamboo - new to Enchanted, the bamboo used in in this range is grown in Naan, Northern Thailand, at a family-owned and managed plantation. Bamboo is a multi-purpose eco-friendly grass that when harvested, carries on growing again. It is cut for size, the outer skin is stripped off and the core is sanded down to a smooth finish, before being kiln dried, treated with a fire retardant, colour stained, varnished and polished. After all this careful attention it is lovingly filled with soy wax and finally makes it into the natural world as a rather special candle.
We currently stock one size, 13 cm high, which has a good average burn time of 37 hours.
  • Coconut - fancy a coconut, mango, mandarin or cantaloupe scented candle? Then check out our new range of natural coconut candles! Smelling good enough to eat, these soy candles are in coconut shells that rest on a stand when on a table. The surprise is that these candles also float in water - never mind candles around the bath, what about in the bath? Or have a bowl on your coffee table with the candle floating in water.
We currently stock one size that has an average burn time of 40 hours - amazing when you see the size of it!
  • Glass jars - part of our original range and a constant favourite for its simplicity in appearance and beautifully scents - it's hard to choose one scent over another, they are all divine, but our personal favourite is still the lemongrass. The glass jar comes with its own metal lid extinguisher. The packaging is all recycled, being made from recycled cardboard tubing to provide a tight protective package that is environmentally responsible. Even the colourful paper labels are printed with Japanese soy ink.
Each candle has an average burn time of 45 hours.
  • Earthenware hearts - these are beautifully scented soy wax candles in a ceramic container that reflects the shape of a heart when the candle is lit, giving it a romantic charm. When the candle has been burnt, the container can be reused as a tealight holder.
Each candle has an average burn time of 10 hours.

Once again we've enthused about our candles, but we know from your feedback how much you love them too and with the additions to the range we're sure there'll be something to suit every taste and budget.

Double Bubbles

If you've been to the shop you may have already seen our double bubbles, but you may have just thought "what a pretty glass ball" and not have realised the hidden secret!
The Double Bubble is hand blown in Scotland, making every piece unique and is based on the old Witches Ball - the Witches Ball dates back to medieval times when they would be hung in windows to repel witches. Later the superstitious fishermen used them as floats for their nets to repel the sea devils and protect their catch.

Now brought into modern day with a twist (and this is hard to explain so please come in to see for yourself!) the Double Bubble is a bubble within a bubble, with the inner bubble being open at the top. Filled with a bit of water and a few drops of fragrance or essential oils, the Double Bubble can be hung from the curtain rail or in a conservatory - or really, wherever you like! The heat generated by the sun (or the radiator under the window) will warm the oils to give a lovely natural fragrance to the room. Of course, the scent will always be present when oils are in the inner bubble in the same way as they are for pot pourri.

We now have a wider range of colours in stock, so why not bring some lovely colour into the home and enjoy a more natural air freshener?

Bowls?

Yes indeed - singing bowls to be precise. All of our bowls come with a stick, a cushion and a lovely box (believe it or not some places sell the sticks and cushions separately!). We have a range of sizes in the traditional plain brass bowl, some lovely patterned bowls and some embossed bowls. We also have tingsas (tibetan chimes) back in stock, and as ever these are flying out fast!
All of our singing bowls and tingsas are fair trade.

And there's more......

  • Shamanic drums
  • An extended range of amber jewellery (including cufflinks for him, and some unusual faceted amber for her)
  • Animal Spirit greeting cards by Steven Farmer
  • Lovely "Noteables" in a beautiful keepsake tin
  • Stunning gift bags that come complete with tissue paper and card, making wrapping that present even easier
  • Little Affirmation Cards

.......we could go on and on! Oh, and we've just been crystal hunting again too!

So why not come in and see us, have a look at all our new stock and some old favourites, have a chat....and if the kettle's on we might even make you a cuppa!

As ever, if there's anything that you're interested in that we don't currently stock, please do let us know and, space permitting, we will do our best to get it in.

Summer comes to an end...

Hopefully you've had a good summer (despite the good old English weather!), if you were lucky enough to get away to the sunshine we hope it was a good break and you came back suitably refreshed and relaxed.

It's been a while since we've posted up news. Having said that, there's a lot happening at Enchanted at the moment - we've just returned from the Autumn Fair where we found some new items as well as the old favourites, so you will be hearing a little more from us as we keep you informed of new products as and when they arrive.

We've been giving some thought to how we can say thank you, and we're in the process of putting together a loyalty scheme for our regular customers, as well as a referral scheme which will allow us to say thank you for spreading the word about us - watch this space, we'll let you know when the finer details are in place and we launch both schemes.

Enough waffle, on to what's new and what's returned to Enchanted!

Singing bowls and tingsas

We had a delivery of our lovely Fairtrade Tibetan singing bowls and tingsas in August - both the traditional brass and some more ornate - some of which we'd been waiting to come into the country since February. They were so lovely that they were being snapped up as quickly as we could unpack them - some didn't even make it to the shelves! We still have a couple left though, and more stock is expected soon - we'll let you know when they come back in.

We also have a clear quartz singing bowl - these are truly amazing, quite different from the brass singing bowls in tone. Ours is made in the U.S. and is 99.992% pure quartz and of the highest quality. They are available to order, with each bowl being tuned to a specific chakra or for general energy cleansing. The one we have in the shop is for general energy cleansing and we can't stop playing it, indeed we often start playing it without even realising - many a phone caller has asked "what's that lovely sound?" in the last couple of weeks! Why not come in and give it a try?

Jewellery

We have been lucky enough to discover some new designer jewellery - Marissa is a lovely lady who is passionate about crystals and travels across Asia buying semi-precious stones and getting silver beads made up to her own designs, then brings them back and makes them into lovely necklaces and earrings. More substantial than our existing ranges, they have a real presence and each piece is unique.

Your feedback was so positive that we have also extended our range of semi-precious stone jewellery set in silver. These come in the lovely blue "treasure chest" gift boxes, each with a description of the qualities of the stones used, making you feel special before you even open the box.

We've also come across some lovely jade pendants, some in the traditional green and others in more unusual pink and purple colours - all set in silver, some with Chinese characters or dragons. A lovely addition to our range of semi-precious jewellery.

There will also be some new jewellery coming in shortly as a result of our buying trip at the Autumn Fair, so why not pop in and see what's new?

Music

We've expanded our range of CDs to include the Feel Good Music Collection of Fridrik Karlsson. Fridrik hails from Iceland and has many credits to his name, having performed with some leading artists, in West End musicals and had his music used on several film soundtracks. He has brought his experience as a complementary therapist and his musical talents together to produce this lovely range of music. Remember, if you want to listen to a CD before you buy, we're more than happy to put it into our CD player for you.

Greeting cards

You've really loved the range of music that we've had on offer, but have you ever thought of sharing it with others? Now you can - Music Cards with CD's are a gift and a greeting card rolled into one. Each beautifully designed card comes with a matching CD with several tracks from the Paradise Music collection specially selected to match the theme of the card. Each card is blank inside to allow you to write your own personal message.

Guiding Spirits

The beautiful Guiding Spirits Angels are statues made from solid resin in full colour. The beauty and detail of these statues are breathtaking! We had them when we first opened and they quickly sold out, and now the range has been extended - words cannot do them justice, they have to be seen. They make a very special gift, whether that gift is to another or to yourself!

Candles Naturally

We are delighted to introduce a new range of candles to you.
It can be so difficult to find candles that don't use paraffin or synthetic ingredients and are good quality, but we think we've found them!
Candles Naturally are made from entirely natural ethically-sourced ingredients.

We currently have three types of candle:

  • Coral - colourful and with an unusual appearance, these unique candles have an outer core that looks like coral, and as the inner core melts away the candlelight shines out through the coral-like texture creating a calming glow. They are hand-made, coloured with plant-based dyes, fragranced with top-quality essential oils, and the plastic-looking container is made from corn-starch. When the candle has burnt, the remaining outer case can still be used as a tealight holder.
We currently stock one size which has an average burn time of 30 hours.

Each candle has an average burn time of 45 hours.

Have we enthused enough about our candles? Do you get the impression that we really like them?!

Music / CDs

Well not new as such, as those of you who have bought CDs from us will already know! But having dipped our toe in the water, we've now expanded the range of CDs - there's now a bigger range of relaxing music CDs, we have several meditation CDs and also several workshop CDs.
Why not come and have a look - and remember that if you want to listen to a CD before you buy, we're more than happy to put it into our CD player for you.

Children's books and CDs

We also have some meditation CDs for children, and some inspirational books written especially for children by authors such as Doreen Virtue and Wayne Dyer. For those of you who think you may have an indigo, crystal or rainbow child, we also have the book "The care and feeding of Indigo children" by Doreen Virtue, but if you rarely have time to read we also have the 2-CD set live lecture "Indigo, crystal and rainbow children - a guide to the new generations of highly sensitive young people" by Doreen Virtue.

New Website!

6 May 2008

We now have our new website available and we hope you like it!

A lot of work has gone into this over the last few days which has been really appreciated since we've been quite busy after opening the shop. We aim to keep the site updated with details of new products or special offers, so keep coming back!

We're finally open!

12 April 2008

After almost 18 months since the idea took seed and much hard work since, we're now open!

It's amazing how much effort (and cost) is need to get a shop open and there's always a few surprises along the way! The old saying about ‘If it can go wrong it will go wrong’ is not far off the mark. That's not being overally pessimistic, that just seems to be how it is!

Anyway, after some issues, a false start and the realisation that things don't always happen when they're supposed to - we've made it. We would like to extend our heartfelt and sincere thanks to those who have helped us along the way, especially one very special couple - you know who you are. (enjoy Las Vegas!)

Please come and see us - we hope you enjoy the ‘Enchanted Experience’!
